John James Audubon - Birds of America
John James Audubon (1785-1851) was not the first person to attempt to paint and describe all the birds of America, but for half a century he was the dominant wildlife artist of the young country. His seminal Birds of America, a collection of life-size prints is the standard for which 20th and 21st century bird artists are measured.
John James Audubon's Birds of America sold the week of December 6, 2010 for just over $11.5 million at Sothebys. That amount obliterated a previous record of $8.8 million for another book sold in 2000. Only 100 copies of the book featuring hand-colored prints by Audubon measuring over three feet tall exist in the world making it an astounding piece for any book collectors vault, and the most expensive book in the world!

These are high resolution images most of which are over 16,000 pixels on the large side of which can be enlarged to 40" X 60" or larger at 300 dpi.
